Leapin' into March!!

Precious the Cat decided that the best way to spend Leap Day morning was by taking a sunny snooze up on the bed!! For those of you that have been following my blog, you know that last October we thought that Precious would be going on to kitty heaven. She suffered something like a mini stroke, but love and care brought her through. She wasn't acting quite right this morning, but seems to be fine now. I imagined she was bothered by this extra day that we have thrown into February!! Precious is a very precious old kitty. She will be turning 19 in August!!! Way to go, Precious!!!

MORNING VIEW...AND FEATHERED FRIEND!!

It is just another most beautiful morning here in the mountains..the view is clear and crisp, and the birds are having their usual morning feeding frenzy. One little fellow loves to pose for me, as you can see him looking at me with the bit of seed in his beak!! (Don't look at all the bird residue that accumulates along the porch rail, though......!!) We are having gorgeous Spring-like weather right now...with cold and snow due on Sunday. The bulbs are poking their little heads out of the soil, and Mr. Squirrel has dug and eaten many......NO!! Eat what I feed you, Mr. Squirrel, DO NOT eat my bulbs!!

IN MY BACKYARD.......

I love the outdoors....and the winter...and the sun...and the snow....and the rocks....and all things in nature, especially along Deer Creek right near my home. Today I want to share some of my favorite sights with you!!

I LOVE FABRIC SWAPPING!!!!!

Look at the cooool fabric I got in the mail!!! Katie and I swapped fat quarters, and I got mine today!! Whoooooo!! Whoooooo!!! More for the stash...and I didn't have any of these, either!!! Such fun!!! Thanks, Katie!!

NEW CAMERA!! NEW BIRD!!!

Sharing some of the first shots using my new camera!!! Not real happy with them, but it's a start!! Moving from the handy "point and shoot" to the bit more complicated digital SLR....but these were done in "auto mode"!! HA!! Haven't learned enough yet to go further!! I believe this is a black-billed magpie. I've seen them in flight before, but never sitting long enough for me to take a picture!! This guy stayed for a long time, until frightened off by a passing car. I was hoping to see the eagle again, so that I could get some shots with the new camera...but no such luck.

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED!!!!

What a wonderful surprise this morning, while taking a short drive after breakfast!! Not far from home we came upon a regal bald eagle, sunning himself on a rock outcropping in a field. How lucky were we!! He sat there a long time, and I am hoping to find him there again another time!! Maybe this is a nesting rock for Mr. and Mrs. Eagle!! Wouldn't that be fun!!!!????

THE BIRTHDAY AND THE BIRTHDAY BASH!!!!

Madison, the granddaughter, turned TWO on Valentine's Day!! She had her birthday dinner and special birthday ice cream sundae at her favorite, Red Robin!! Then her mommy and daddy held a grand BIRTHDAY BASH for her on Saturday!! She had a super fun time!!

A WINTER FASCINATION!!

I love WINTER!! I love all the things that come with winter...snow, frost, crisp air, invigorating temperatures.....I know......most of you will think I have lost my mind!! A few mornings ago beautiful icy crystals were everywhere!! Here are a couple of shots of these wonderful artful works of nature that had been left on the windows of Mike's truck!! Enjoy!!

Our sweet granddaughter, Madison, turns TWO today!!! Being born on Valentine's Day has made her even more of a sweetheart!! I hope your day is special, Maddie, and I've heard that Mommy and Daddy are taking you out to your favorite, Red Robin, for dinner tonight!! Saturday will be her BIG BASH birthday party!! Have fun!!! Happy Valentine's Day!!! May it be your best ever!! Here's hoping that love is in the air all over our world, and that no one eats toooo much chocolate!! It's a beautiful snowy morning here in the mountains, with temps in the low 20's....unlike yesterday that was just like Spring!! The afternoon temp here at our castle was 64!! YES!!!

I want to share pictures of my card that I received from Cathy of Hazelruthe in her wonderful handmade card exchange!!! Isn't it lovely??? This exchange was just so much fun!! I want to do this again!! It was great to push myself into a world that isn't my most comfortable one, and create a handmade card.

MORNING VISITOR.....LOOKING FOR BREAKFAST????

As Mike was leaving for work this morning, and I was grabbing the newspaper, I saw a shadow on the house next door......and look who was in the tree!! I'm sure he was looking for a quick snack or a yummy breakfast. Perhaps he had his eye on Precious the Cat who had accompanied us out the door!! He remained in the tree, proudly perched, awaiting my return with the camera. I was able to stand right there in the front yard looking up at him, and he never flew away!! In my amateur bird knowledge, I believe he is either a Merlin Falcon or a Prairie Falcon, both of which inhabit this area. Enjoy the pictures!!

MY NEW FRIEND!!!

I want to share these photos of my new friend.........and I named her Snow Queen!! Not knowing much at all about horses, except that they are bigger than me, and I don't feel really comfortable around them, I was totally mesmerized by this beautiful animal!! She and her friend were rummaging in the snow for nibbles of this and that, but as I approached the fence, Snow Queen seemed to be quite interested in me. I spoke to her, talked to her about her day, and I'm certain that she was attempting to share conversation with me. Is this what horse whispering is all about???!!!!! I watched her and talked with her for a long time, until I guess she became bored, and chose to lie down for a little snooze!! I can't wait to go back and visit again...and maybe take her a carrot or an apple???? Isn't she gorgeous????!!!!
